Vijiji Tanzania is dedicated to strengthening the resilience of vulnerable communities through innovative, community-led solutions in climate adaptation, public health, environmental conservation, and disaster risk management. Working across Tanzania, we empower local communities to anticipate, prepare for, and respond effectively to emerging health and climate-related challenges in a number of ways as follows.
Climate and Health Early Warning Systems
Vijiji Tanzania through collaborations with the Tanzania Meteorological Authority, train the local community to strengthen their resilience by integrating climate information, early warning systems, and public health surveillance to enable timely preparedness and response to climate hazards and disease outbreaks (SDG 3, SDG 11, SDG 13).
Digital Disease Surveillance and Emergency Preparedness
Vijiji Tanzania implement community-based digital surveillance systems (eCEBS, EBS, EIOS) that provide real-time health information, support rapid outbreak detection, and strengthen national emergency response systems (SDG 3, SDG 9, SDG 16).
Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction
Vijiji Tanzania empower communities to manage climate risks through disaster preparedness, climate-smart adaptation, and community-led resilience initiatives that protect lives and livelihoods (SDG 1, SDG 2, SDG 11, SDG 13).
Environmental Conservation and WASH
We promote ecosystem restoration, sustainable natural resource management, safe water, sanitation, and hygiene to improve environmental and public health outcomes (SDG 6, SDG 13, SDG 15).
One Health, Research and Community Empowerment
Using the One Health approach, we generate evidence, strengthen community knowledge, and foster partnerships that improve human, animal, and environmental health for sustainable development (SDG 3, SDG 4, SDG 17).
