Vijiji Tanzania promotes health in rural communities by empowering individuals to improve their lifestyles and well-being through small, localized units of change called “Vijiji.” Their approach combines insights from behavioral, social, biological, and medical sciences to drive sustainable health improvements.
Health Research
Vijiji Tanzania sets healthcare research priorities to improve quality, safety, and whole-person care in rural areas, aligning with national strategies and SDG 3. Focus areas include non-communicable and infectious diseases, healthcare worker well-being, and health system research on service quality, workforce, and governance.
Medical Volunteerism
Vijiji Tanzania promotes medical volunteerism by inviting global healthcare experts to provide free care and training in under-resourced areas, focusing on specialized services like physiotherapy, surgery, and chronic disease care. Volunteers support hospitals, clinics, and community health programs both locally and abroad.
Economic Stimulations
Vijiji Tanzania stimulates rural economies through smart farming and pastoral activities, using economic tools to boost demand, production, and employment. By addressing social determinants of health, the Vijiji model links economic growth with improved health outcomes and overall well-being.
